The Right to Shower

Building Community for People Experiencing Homelessness

Episode Summary

Greater Cincinnati Homeless Coalition Director of Development Mona Jenkins speaks about building community around those experiencing homelessness.

Episode Notes

Welcome back to The Right to Shower, where we believe access to cleanliness is a fundamental human right. Mona Jenkins, Director of Development and Operations at the Greater Cincinnati Homeless Coalition, joins Darius Baxter this week to speak about how anyone and everyone can get involved. Mona talks about growing up in a community where everyone looked out for one another, and how that drives the work she does today at the Coalition and beyond. The pair speak about some stereotypes held against those experiencing homelessness, as well as the reality of increased housing costs pushing people out of their homes. Mona explains the importance of person-first language and the role communities have in combating homelessness. Together, Mona and Darius talk about the steps anyone can take to get involved and help build a greater sense of community wherever they live.

Cleanliness is a fundamental right and no one should ever feel like they don’t have access to a way to get clean.
